Newsstand and Direct edition
Hi, I have posted on this before but will have a go at it again. It is my view that any listing should have both the newsstand and direct edition covers - in particular on the ones from the 70s and 80s. As a collector - one always tries to get all covers, just like is so common today with the variant editions.
The reply previously was that this was not a good idea as the two different versions have the same value. However, this would not be about the value of the comic, but rather for completeness for devoted collectors.
In addition, just as with the current variant editions, there are different versions of the newsstand and direct editions.

If you are talking about the Marvel test pricing comics of course those are tracked. We only track newsstand separately from direct IF there is a pricing difference in value.

Well, it seems that you have started doing it anyway... by default. More frequently, you have started adding comics with different prices on them (i.e. one 25c and another 30c). However, on a closer look, most of them are actually the newsstand edition and the direct edition.
Perhaps the time has come to do by design what you are already doing by default?

I disagree - a collecting site that aims to be as comprehensive as possible should try to include all variant types, whether they be price variants, upc/direct editions, errors etc. The trick is presenting or including these issues to users without overwhelming the casual collector. But to list only some variants and not others seems arbitrary - maybe allow an advanced option for collectors of these variants that want to track additional information?

I understand why you need it but as Bert said, you can always make note of it on a book by book basis in your piles on the realm.

I could see a need for this if the covers or price different, but if it's just the UPC box versus Spider- Mans head...not sure it's worth it. You can list which cover you have in the *Notes* for individual issues if you feel a need to track it.
